Langeliers injured his knee while running the bases. Currently, he and the Athletics are considering the best course of action. If surgery proceeds, Langeliers’ 2026 season would end prematurely. For teams eyeing him as a trade candidate, this development could change trade strategies, as Langeliers is a highly regarded player in the league.
The Athletics had no intention of trading him, given their current standing with a 44-60 record. Langeliers has been a standout player, recently attending his first All-Star Game. This is notable as other team players like Nick Kurtz and Brent Rooker are also dealing with injuries.
Langeliers’ statistics this season are fairly impressive. He holds a .263 batting average with a .332 on-base percentage and a .497 slugging percentage. These numbers are consistent with the Athletics’ expectations following his 2025 season where he hit 31 home runs and achieved a .861 OPS. However, his current injury casts doubt on surpassing those achievements.
Teams aiming for the postseason, such as the New York Yankees, might have been interested in Langeliers. With this setback, they might redirect interest to other catchers like Hunter Goodman from the Colorado Rockies or Adley Rutschman from the Baltimore Orioles.
