A North Carolina woman, Elizabeth “Liz” Waddell, vanished while visiting Grenada, a Caribbean island. Her disappearance has prompted an urgent search effort. Family and friends are appealing for her safe return.
Waddell, 44, was last seen on Wednesday at Grand Anse Beach in St. George’s, close to where she was staying in Grand Anse. The Royal Grenada Police Force is leading the search.
Waddell is a physical therapist from the Raleigh area. She is 5 feet 5 inches tall with short blonde hair. Authorities released a photo of her with pink hair while seeking public help in finding her.
Her professional website states that she founded Art of Movement Physical Therapy and holds a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
According to WRAL News, Waddell went to Grenada with a friend for vacation. Her friend lost sight of her after Waddell went for a swim from their Airbnb with a pool overlooking the bay.
Amanda Romano-Harmon quoted, “Liz was set up out there just sightseeing from the pool.” Her friend couldn’t find her after finishing an online course. She found Waddell’s towel on the pier, suggesting she might have gone swimming.
The friend grew more worried since Waddell did not have her phone. A missing-persons report was subsequently filed.
Waddell’s husband, Cailen, learned about her disappearance while at work. He is heading to Grenada to join the search efforts and seeks information from anyone with connections to the island.
He described Waddell as kind-hearted and sociable. “She could make friends with anyone,” he noted to the Grenada Broadcasting Network (GBN).
Police encourage those with information to come forward, especially fishermen and residents along Grenada’s southern coastline.
The search for Waddell involves police officers, divers, and students from St. George’s University. The U.S. State Department acknowledges the situation and is prepared to assist her family with local procedures.
Aradia Fitness, where Waddell is a fitness instructor, expressed their concern over her disappearance in a social media post, urging the community to hope for her safe return.
Authorities urge anyone with information to contact local police stations directly.
