Bald Gathering Inspires Empowerment in Washington Square Park

A unique gathering in Washington Square Park on a Saturday brought together around 100 bald individuals who embraced their baldness and found a community of support. The event featured men and women who had spent years struggling with baldness but came together to celebrate it openly. Despite the rain, which might usually prompt them to wear hats, attendees chose to leave them at home, symbolizing confidence and acceptance.

Phil Myers, a comedian and participant, addressed the crowd with a bold introduction, declaring proudly, “My name is Phil and I’m bald.” The group responded with chants of “Bald is beautiful!” and “Bald! Bald! Bald!” demonstrating the empowering atmosphere of the meetup.

Organizer Justin Bradford, a freelance video producer, sold T-shirts with a clever twist on the “I Love New York” logo, replacing the heart with a bald head. Bradford, 31, expressed that baldness is often misunderstood and that the meetup challenges the notion that being bald is unfortunate. He emphasized the positivity of being part of a community where baldness is celebrated, stating, “I don’t think that’s the case at all, especially when we’re all together.”
