Cedric Alexander successfully defended his Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) X Division Championship on Sunday night during Slammiversary. The match was held in challenging conditions as it was an Ultimate X match, a format requiring participants to climb pillars and navigate cables to reach the championship belt.
This match marked the 55th Ultimate X contest in TNA history. Alexander faced off against notable competitors including Amazing Red, Frankie Kazarian, Fabian Aichner, Leon Slater, KC Navarro, and Mr. Elegance. Significantly, it was Red’s first TNA appearance in approximately 15 years.
As the match unfolded, Alexander, Kazarian, Red, and Aichner simultaneously attempted to seize the belt. However, Alexander slipped, knocking Aichner out of contention while Red and Kazarian fell to the mat. This allowed Red and Kazarian to demonstrate their resilience.
While Elegance sought to capitalize on the absence of competitors in the ring, Navarro deprived him of the opportunity. Red then engaged face-off with Navarro, executing a Code Red move on him before doing the same to Kazarian. Despite Red’s efforts to pursue the title, Slater intercepted him.
Building his momentum, Slater effectively removed competition by executing a double blockbuster against Aichner, Elegance, Kazarian, and Navarro. Racing against Red, Slater made his way toward the title. As both hung from the wires with Slater having unhooked the belt, Alexander entered the fray.
Alexander retrieved the belt from Slater’s hands, securing his victory as neither Slater nor Red had touched the mat. Thus, Alexander retains the X Division Championship. Leon Slater earlier contended for the title but saw his hopes dashed with Alexander’s triumph.
