Ravens Quarterback Dilemma After Week 8 Loss
The Baltimore Ravens are facing a significant challenge with their quarterback lineup following injuries sustained by Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley in their Week 8 game against the Buffalo Bills. Jackson had made a return to play but suffered a thumb injury on his throwing hand during his first offensive play, hitting his hand on Bills linebacker Greg Rousseau. He later appeared on the sidelines with his hand and thumb in a cast. Head coach Jesse Minter confirmed post-game that Jackson will be placed on injured reserve and will require surgery.
Further Setback with Huntley’s Injury
Tyler Huntley, who stepped in for Jackson, experienced his own setback. Huntley suffered a toe injury in the second quarter after a tackle by Bills’ Ed Oliver, forcing him out of the match. This led to Joe Fagnano, an undrafted quarterback from UConn, finishing the game for the Ravens.
Ravens’ AFC North Contention at Risk
The injuries come at a critical time, as the Ravens looked poised to compete for the AFC North title. Jackson’s absence for at least four games creates uncertainty about his return this season. With an upcoming “Thursday Night Football” game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Baltimore must act quickly to reinforce their quarterback roster.
Potential Options for Reinforcement
NFL insider Mike Florio reported the Ravens might explore options with the Chicago Bears, particularly since they have three quarterbacks. Tyson Bagent, who played as a backup during Caleb Williams’ absence, could be considered. Ravens’ Offensive Coordinator Declan Doyle previously served with the Bears, which could be a connection point.
“Here’s one thing to keep in mind. The Bears have three quarterbacks. One of them is Tyson Bagent. Declan Doyle, the Ravens’ offensive coordinator, was the Bears’ offensive coordinator last year. Don’t be surprised if the Ravens reach out,” Florio stated.
Challenges in Securing Players
However, obtaining Bagent may be difficult as he played a crucial role for the Bears earlier this season. The 2026 NFL trade deadline is set for Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. ET, so Ravens face a tight timeframe to arrange a deal. Keeping an eye on trade opportunities will be essential as the deadline approaches.
