Bobby Pulido: From Music Star to Political Candidate

Bobby Pulido, a prominent Latin Grammy winner, entered the political arena, facing off as a Democratic candidate for a competitive congressional district in Texas. A 2010 interview with a Mexican newspaper revealed Pulido’s avoidance of supermarkets since his rise in the music industry. His busy schedule as a music star left little time for household management, as the artist admitted.

As the Democratic candidate in a vital congressional district, Pulido’s lifestyle contrasts with Democratic narratives focusing on affordability for the 2026 midterms. These campaigns address inflation and high gas prices, which have sparked discontent with President Donald Trump. Pulido, known for his Tejano music including hits like “Desvelado” and “Se Murió de Amor,” has garnered five Latin Grammy nominations, winning Best Tejano Album in 2022 and 2025.

Despite controversies from his past, Pulido’s campaign resonates with voters through its focus on overlooked expenses. “The economy we care about isn’t represented by numbers and letters flashing on a Wall Street board,” reads Pulido’s campaign page. It emphasizes daily costs such as groceries and health insurance, crucial concerns for Texans facing inflation.

Inflation rose from 3.8% in April to 4.2% in May, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Pulido claims this economic pressure disproportionately impacts his district, suggesting it has Texas’s lowest per-capita income. “In the Rio Grande Valley, inflation feels more intense. We don’t earn much money, so it hits harder here,” Pulido explained on a YouTube podcast.

His goal is to defeat incumbent Rep. Monica De La Cruz, a Republican. Due to recent redistricting, the race is pivotal for Democrats, with Pulido seeking bipartisan support. De La Cruz secured re-election in 2024, winning 57.1% over her Democratic rival Michelle Vallejo. Pulido advanced beyond the Democratic primary and will challenge De La Cruz on November 3.

Fox News Digital contacted Pulido’s campaign for comments. Leo Briceno, a congressional politics reporter for Fox News Digital, contributed to this article.
