Boston, Denver, and Philadelphia Vie to Host 2028 Democratic National Convention

The Democratic National Convention Committee has announced Boston, Denver, and Philadelphia as the finalists to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention. This decision was shared by Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin.

The committee is moving forward with the selection process, which will take several months. Previously, Atlanta and Chicago were contenders, but they did not make the final list. This information was initially reported by the Associated Press.

Chair Martin expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming convention, stating, “The 2028 Democratic National Convention will be an inspiring celebration of our party’s future nominee, and a critical step on Democrats’ path towards retaking the White House.” He praised the strong bids from the three finalist cities.

The committee began seeking proposals from interested cities in September 2025 and conducted site visits during April and May of the following year. However, the exclusion of Atlanta from the shortlist prompted criticism from Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. In a letter accessed by CBS News Atlanta, he conveyed his disappointment and questioned the DNC’s regard for Atlanta’s role within the party.

The convention is set for August 7-10, 2028. The previous Democratic National Convention in 2024 was hosted in Chicago. Philadelphia last hosted the event in 2016, marking the nomination of Hillary Clinton. Boston was the convention city in 2004, noted for then-Senator Barack Obama’s keynote address. Denver was the host city in 2008, where Obama accepted his presidential nomination.
