Chaos erupted in the fourth inning of Sunday night’s Mexican Baseball League game between the Toros de Tijuana and the Acereros de Monclova. The commotion began when a Tijuana runner got caught in a rundown after attempting to score on a grounder to third base that was not fielded cleanly. The runner, Danry Vasquez, was tagged out by the third baseman.
Danry Vasquez, who has a troubled history involving a domestic violence charge from his time in Major League Baseball, reacted to the tag by throwing punches. The altercation started when Vasquez hit Monclova’s third baseman Rodolfo Amador in the back, followed by a punch to the face. This attack led to both benches clearing and escalating the situation into a full-scale brawl.
The confrontation moved towards the mound after Vasquez was seen kicking Amador while down. A response came swiftly when Monclova first baseman Ryan Hernandez retaliated by knocking Vasquez to the ground with a clothesline maneuver.
Following the fight, World Baseball reported that Danry Vasquez was “suspended indefinitely” by the LMB. Additionally, Vasquez, Toros pitcher Adonis Medina, Monclova’s Ryan Hernandez, and second baseman Jecksson Flores were ejected from the game. Reports from Mexican journalist Rosa Lilia Torres stated that Hernandez was taken from the ballpark in an ambulance with a broken arm.
Danry Vasquez’s behavior during the game raises serious concerns. His conduct suggests he may not be the type of player that teams want in their lineup, especially considering his readiness to engage in violence.
