Jacy Maranhao, a Brazilian soccer player, reported on his health following a recent incident during a goal celebration. Playing for Coritiba, Maranhao scored at Estádio Major Antônio Couto Pereira. The celebration, however, turned tragic when he tried to find his wife among the spectators.
Intent on celebrating with his pregnant wife, Maranhao attempted to jump over the barrier. Unfortunately, he stumbled into an unseen trap door, resulting in an ankle injury. ‘I got carried away,’ he admitted, recalling his first goal at the stadium and the oversight that led to the mishap.
Maranhao’s situation became further complicated when his goal was disallowed by a VAR review ruling it offside. Nonetheless, Coritiba clinched a 2-1 victory. Despite the injury, Maranhao managed to play through the half but eventually exited the game.
Reflecting on the event, he described it as feeling ‘like falling from a building.’ Maranhao shared an update, mentioning, ‘I twisted my foot; it’s sore, but I’m fine.’ He emphasized the rarity of scoring for center-backs like himself, underlining the enthusiasm behind his celebration.
Later on social media, he noted that his foot was initially painful, preventing him from bearing weight. Yet, he expressed relief over his improving recovery.
Maranhao’s career includes previous seasons with the team Operário in 2024 and 2025. Currently in his second season at Coritiba, the team ascended to Série A this year after competing in Série B. Maranhao has achieved one goal across 19 matches in the current season.
