The annual Lakers media day often follows a predictable routine with new jerseys, bright lights, and repetitive questions. However, this year, one particular seat at the podium attracted more attention within the UCLA Health Training Center.
Bronny James is set to begin his third season with the Los Angeles Lakers. Unlike previous years, his father, LeBron James, will not share the locker room with him. During the summer, LeBron moved to the Philadelphia 76ers as a free agent.
At the Lakers’ training complex, Bronny spoke about the legacy he carries. As reported by ClutchPoints, Bronny stated, “You guys know me as Bronny. My real name is LeBron. I’ve been doing this for however long, so I think it’s a motivating factor for me just getting up every day and trying to prove myself as Bronny instead of LeBron.”
Reporter Jordan Richard shared a clip on X capturing the Lakers’ first practice of the camp, highlighting Bronny’s statements. Notably, Bronny was the last player to leave the gym post-practice.
The dynamic within the team feels altered without LeBron’s presence, and Bronny acknowledged this change. Despite the absence, Bronny remains focused on his responsibilities. The Lakers are set to play against the Sixers in Los Angeles on Christmas Day, but Bronny’s priority is the upcoming season.
Last season, Bronny participated in 42 games, where he averaged 2.9 points per game in less than nine minutes on average per game. Notably, he achieved a 38.6% shooting rate from the three-point line, marking significant progress from his rookie season.
Securing more playtime will be challenging, as Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves dominate the backcourt, creating a crowded roster. Despite this, Bronny approaches the season with aggression and readiness to fulfill any role the team demands.
