Caitlin Clark’s Rollercoaster Season with the Indiana Fever

The 2026 WNBA season has presented challenges for the Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark. Following a significant portion of missed play in 2025, fans expected Clark to reclaim her rookie season momentum in 2026. Despite an impressive start, her performance has become inconsistent.

Clark began the season strong with over 20 points in five consecutive games. However, she struggled to maintain this level in the subsequent four games. Against the Golden State Valkyries, she delivered a solid 22 points, nine assists, and shot 44% from the three-point range. However, her momentum waned afterward with five turnovers in the rematch and just six points against the Portland Fire on May 30.

Caitlin Clark’s Struggles Continue Against Fire

In a game against the Portland Fire, Clark managed only six points, highlighting the challenges she faced. During the Indiana Fever’s game at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on June 6, 2026, Clark scored 10 points with 28.6% shooting, three turnovers, and five fouls. Nevertheless, she contributed with nine assists and seven rebounds, showcasing her ability to assist her team despite not being at peak performance.

Her shooting has struggled; prior to Monday’s game, Clark was 14 for 50 from the field and merely 6 for 22 on three-point attempts. With the Fever sitting at a 5-5 record, Monday night’s game against the Washington Mystics was critical for regaining form.

Strong Performance Against Washington Mystics

Clark started confidently, scoring 10 points in the first quarter and converting 2 out of 5 three-point attempts. Although Coach Stephanie White limited her court time in the second quarter, Clark impressed with a skillful pass to Myisha Hines-Allen.

In the second half, Clark displayed her well-known shooting prowess. She completed a four-point play after making a 25-foot jump shot and getting fouled by Cassandre Prosper. Despite the Fever building a large lead, the Mystics dwindled it down to one point with a minute to go. Clark missed two crucial free throws, but quickly rebounded.

After a Mystics’ turnover, Clark provided Aliyah Boston with a half-court pass, regaining the lead for Fever. Following another lead change, Sophie Cunningham’s long pass to Clark led to a 31-foot basket, securing a 78-76 victory for the Fever.

Monday’s game marked a return to form for Clark, with 19 points on 7-16 shooting, hitting 4 of 10 from three-point range. She added five assists and a steal, rejoicing with the game-winning shot. As a result, the Fever improved to a 6-5 record. They now prepare to face the Chicago Sky on Thursday.
