California Realtor Arrested for Allegedly Acting as an Agent for China

A realtor from Irvine, California, identified as Wanying “Heather” Zhang, 34, faced arrest on Sunday. Authorities claim she worked without registration as an agent for the Chinese government.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli announced that FBI agents apprehended Zhang at Los Angeles International Airport. She was trying to leave for China.

Charges suggest Zhang traveled to Seattle in 2025. Her mission involved surveilling a relative of a Taiwanese government official. She reportedly gathered and sent photos, videos, and license plate information to Chinese authorities.

She coordinated the trip with an associate and used tradecraft to avoid detection. Essayli stated. She never notified the Attorney General she was acting for a foreign government, a federal offense.

This situation is ongoing, with further updates expected.
