Recently, gastrointestinal issues have been in the spotlight, with Tennessee Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley discussing a harsh stomach bug he faced during the offseason. The issue arose after consuming a meal from a popular fast-casual chain known for its burritos and bowls.
Ridley was asked by a reporter about dealing with a 24-hour bug during the offseason. He confirmed, saying, “I’ve actually had that a couple of times; maybe three or four times. It’s not a good thing. It’s like a 24-hour thing, but it really puts you down pretty good.” Ridley mentioned he lost about 15 pounds in just one day due to the bug.
While joking about the severity of such bugs, Ridley emphasized the impact it had on his health. During a press interaction, reporters inquired whether his symptoms were linked to eating lettuce amid the Cyclospora outbreaks. Ridley specified that he had eaten at Chipotle during that period.
Importantly, Chipotle has not been associated with any of the Cyclospora outbreaks linked to infections across the country. A request for comment from Chipotle regarding Ridley’s experience has been made, but the source of his ailment remains unknown. Ridley is currently gearing up for his third season with the Titans.
There seems to be a tendency to blame Mexican cuisine whenever gastrointestinal issues arise. Though many might associate these foods with stomach troubles, attributing such discomforts solely to Mexican food is not entirely fair. It’s commonly understood that selecting simpler food options can sometimes prevent these issues.
