Off-Broadway Debut
A group of seasoned Chicago theater artists is central to the production of To Have and To Hold, an off-Broadway play written by and starring Laura Lapidus. This contemporary piece, inspired by The Taming of the Shrew, explores the sibling dynamics between characters Kate and Bianca. Joining the cast alongside Tedra Millan is Yuriy Sardarov, recognized for his role in Chicago Fire. The production is led by Joshua Altman, the founder of Lily Jack Productions, with its premiere set for August 23 at Chashama’s 154 Theater in New York.
Chicago Shakespeare Theater Anniversary Celebration
Marking 40 years since Barbara Gaines and Chicago actors performed Henry V atop the Red Lion Pub, Chicago Shakespeare Theater celebrates this milestone with a free open house event on Navy Pier. The event includes various activities located across its three performance spaces. Attendees can participate in backstage tours, witness design displays from past shows, join verse reading sessions with artistic director Edward Hall, and partake in a silent auction featuring books autographed by Ian McKellen. A Red Orchid Theater has announced its 2026-27 season, embracing the theme of a world on fire. The season kicks off with the Chicago premiere of Will Arbery’s drama Heroes of the Fourth Turning, directed by ensemble member dado. This is followed by Keiko Green’s dark comedy You Are Cordially Invited to the End of the World! in winter 2027, and culminates with a new adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Rosmersholm, featuring prominent ensemble members.
