David Cerda: Known for his witty stage presence, David Cerda celebrates 25 years of his production company with a tribute to Joan Crawford. As a Hammond High School alumnus, Cerda continues to impress Chicago’s theater scene. His production, “Joan Crawford Goes to Hell,” sets the stage for a comedic ode to the late movie icon.

Cerda, embodying Crawford’s persona, greets guests after performances, accompanied by his terrier Walter. The play reimagines Crawford’s journey to hell, interacting with key figures from her life. This production first premiered in 1999 and now features an extended run until October 4, 2026.

In Cerda’s narrative, Joan Crawford, on her deathbed, unites with Satan in hell. The story unfolds through the eyes of her adopted daughter, Christina, portrayed by TJ O’Brien. Directed by Cheryl Snodgrass, three actresses embody Crawford’s personality. Gretchen Greear, Nicholas Ian, and Cerda himself capture her essence in varying characters.

Supporting roles include Ryan Kenny as Crawford’s assistant and Lori Lee in dual roles as Crawford’s housekeeper and Pepsi President. The production incorporates high-quality costumes, historical footage, and a well-designed set, enhancing its appeal. Tickets are available online.

The Wizard of Oz on MeTV: Coinciding with Cerda’s theatrical celebrations, MeTV presents the 1939 classic “The Wizard of Oz,” airing on October evenings. This broadcast revives the tradition of watching the movie on television, last seen in 1998.

Neal Sabin highlights the cultural significance of “Oz” as an annual viewer tradition. MeTV enriches this experience with insights from “Oz” memorabilia expert Victoria Calamito and hosts special features. Rich Koz and his companions offer humorous commentary during Saturday’s broadcast.
