The Chicago Bears are dealing with a quarterback situation as their star player, Caleb Williams, is nursing a hamstring injury. Although the injury news is better than expected, Williams will still miss some playing time.
In addition to Williams’ injury, the Bears face uncertainty with their backup quarterback, Tyson Bagent. According to NFL Network, Bagent is currently in the concussion protocol, raising doubts about his availability for the upcoming ‘Monday Night Football’ matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Bagent’s availability for Monday’s game remains uncertain, and the Bears may need to rely on another option.
Bagent stepped in for Williams during Chicago’s recent 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. However, questions about when he sustained the concussion linger, possibly linked to a hard hit on the game’s final play.
Despite being undrafted, Bagent earned his spot as the backup in 2023 after impressive performances, going 2-2 in starts. Since Williams joined the team as the first overall draft pick in 2024, Bagent hasn’t started a game, with Williams playing all 17 games in the past two seasons.
Bears’ head coach Ben Johnson did not completely rule out Williams for the next game, labeling him as ‘week-to-week’ in a recent press conference. Johnson mentioned that Williams is utilizing all available resources to expedite his recovery.
With Bagent in the concussion protocol, there is the possibility of turning to third-string quarterback Case Keenum. Keenum has not started in the NFL since 2023 with the Houston Texans, where he went 1-1 in two starts. If Keenum is needed, it will be his first game start with the Bears, marking his stint with an eighth NFL team.
Keenum has had a long career with 66 starts over 80 games, but he hasn’t seen much play since 2023. The potential game against the Eagles would be a key opportunity for him to return to action.
