Chrissy Metz Discusses Weight Loss Journey and Criticism

Chrissy Metz is addressing critics regarding her weight and the decision to use GLP-1 medication for weight loss. Recently, the 45-year-old actress talked about this on the “The Tamsen Show” podcast.

Metz expressed frustration over ongoing commentary about her appearance. “It’s not that I don’t have people and naysayers and people who comment all kinds of stuff still to this day,” she shared. She noted that negative comments have been a constant presence.

Metz recounted an interaction with a relative who praised her for taking control of her weight, linking it to a family weight issue. The actress highlighted how internet trolls will always have opinions.

She explained that her relative, who is also overweight, makes her understand the challenges of living with such a condition. Although comments from her relative sting less, the other comments she receives remain “wild.”

Metz questioned whether people would make such remarks face-to-face. “They’re like, ‘Oh, Chrissy, you’re pretty, but them eyebrows.’ It doesn’t matter what you do,” she said. She recounted receiving comments like, “Why’d you wear that? Why aren’t you losing weight? Or, you’re losing weight?”

Her stance is clear: “It doesn’t matter what you do, but you sometimes just have to shut it off,” describing criticism while continuing her pursuits as “an act of rebellion.” Metz currently stars in the Broadway musical “& Juliet.”

The “This Is Us” star further discussed the use of GLP-1 medication on “Today.” Initially skeptical, her outlook changed after her father’s death from obesity complications. The medication helped reduce “food noise” in her mind, which she found was something not everyone experienced.

Chrissy Metz has partnered with Ro, a telehealth company offering various medications, including those for weight management. Through this partnership, she aims to manage hereditary and metabolic issues linked to her weight. Metz shared, “I feel better on the medication.”
