Cleveland Browns Trade Myles Garrett to Los Angeles Rams

On June 1, the Cleveland Browns made a significant trade in the NFL landscape. They sent Myles Garrett, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year who had just completed a remarkable 23-sack season, to the Los Angeles Rams. In exchange, the Browns acquired edge rusher Jared Verse, along with a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick.

The real buzz emerged when Jared Verse spoke with Browns reporters on Wednesday. During his first official day with the team, Verse candidly shared his initial reaction to the trade.

“It caught me by surprise. I loved L.A., and I was happy with the coaches, the organization, my teammates, and everyone involved,” Verse explained. “It was upsetting. I was initially upset for a while. But as an athlete, you understand the business side of things,”

Despite the initial disappointment, Verse expressed his enthusiasm about joining Cleveland.

“I’m happy to be a part of the Browns. I’m grateful they believed in me and made the trade. I truly believe in everyone in the locker room, even though it was upsetting at first,” Verse added.

Jared Verse arrives in Cleveland as a promising talent in the NFL. Selected 19th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft from Florida State, Verse quickly made his mark. As a rookie, he tallied 66 tackles, 18 quarterback hits, 11 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks in 17 games. He claimed the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year title.

His second year brought further success. He led all edge rushers with 27 quarterback hits and ranked third in hurries, totaling 64. Verse achieved 58 total tackles, 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, 11 tackles for loss, and 36 pressures, tying for ninth in the NFL. His trajectory was clear, and he has been a Pro Bowl selection in each of his first two seasons. Verse now holds 12 career sacks at the age of 25.

Should the Browns’ rebuilding efforts culminate in a Super Bowl run, Verse could emerge as a dominant defender in the league within a few years. Meanwhile, the Rams gain a significant advantage as they aim for immediate success with 38-year-old Matthew Stafford and 33-year-old Davante Adams. Adding Garrett to their roster aligns with their ambitions.

The trade benefits both franchises. The Rams secure one of the top players in the league for their Super Bowl pursuit, while the Browns look to the future. They gain Verse’s potential alongside valuable draft picks, key elements for their rebuild. For Verse, hailing from Dayton, Ohio, this move symbolizes a return to his roots, where he becomes the face of the Browns’ new era.
