CNN issued an apology following an error in its coverage of Dolly Parton’s death. The network inadvertently displayed a photo of a Dolly Parton impersonator, Kelly Vohnn, during a live broadcast.
Dolly Parton passed away on Tuesday at the age of 80, after a brief battle with cancer. Her death led to worldwide tributes for the celebrated country music star.
During Tuesday’s episode of “Laura Coates Live,” CNN correspondent Shimon Prokupecz reported from Nashville, showcasing a montage of Parton’s photos. Unfortunately, the montage incorrectly included an image of Vohnn attending a film screening of “Song Sung Blue.” This film, featuring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, chronicles a Neil Diamond tribute band.
“We regret the error and apologize to the Parton family,” stated a CNN spokesperson to Fox News Digital.
Impersonator Kelly Vohnn, interviewed by the New York Post, described the situation as “weird” after her image surfaced on CNN. “I started getting texts from friends saying that I was on CNN, and I couldn’t believe it,” she commented, expressing remorse over the mix-up.
Vohnn criticized CNN’s oversight, saying, “I felt so sorry and apologetic for Dolly … and CNN just picked something not appropriate.” She described the incident as embarrassing.
