Commanders Face Setback as Jayden Daniels Suffers Repeat Elbow Injury

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow during Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed the injury, marking the second occurrence in as many seasons. Previously, a similar injury kept Daniels out for four weeks near the end of the season.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Daniels will undergo further tests on Monday. In his absence, the team plans to rely on Marcus Mariota for the upcoming match against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3.

Quinn expressed support for Mariota, stating, “Once I know an update that we can move forward with, then I’ll give you that. Man, are we bummed for him. He was really playing his (expletive) off. We will rally so hard around Marcus until Jayden’s back. That’s what we talked about as a team.”

The injury happened on the last play of the first half, with replays highlighting its severity. Analyst Tom Brady reacted on-air with an expletive in response to the replay.

Quinn later addressed the play call leading to the injury. “I thought looking back on it, at the 1-yard line, we need touchdowns,” Quinn commented on the third-and-goal scenario, disputed by some with only three seconds to halftime. “I don’t regret that call. Any time someone’s injured, you play the ‘what if’ game. I don’t think this is one of those times for me. I hate that it happened. … I wasn’t hesitant about going into that spot. We’re going to be aggressive in this game against their offense. So I don’t regret that. Obviously, the outcome sucks. But it wasn’t a ‘what if’ or ‘I wish I had done something differently.’”

Throughout his sophomore year, Daniels managed only seven starts, battling other injuries, including a knee sprain and a hamstring issue, along with a previous elbow dislocation.
