Community Grieves Loss of Naseem Stevens Amid Investigation

Naseem Stevens, 26, faced a tragic end at a Grand Crossing gas station on Friday evening. This occurred shortly after attending the funeral of Mi’KQuale Cooper, known as rapper BloodHound Q50. Authorities are investigating a possible connection between Steven’s tragic end and Cooper’s funeral, as indicated in a police report obtained by the Tribune.

Despite rumors linking Stevens to the BloodHounds street gang, his mother, Karonna Williams, challenges these speculations. Williams, 45, emphasizes the positive aspects of her son’s life, describing him as “charismatic and loving.” She recalls his involvement with the South Shore Drill Team, with which he once performed in New York.

Williams shares that Stevens was affectionately called “Poohman” among friends on social media, but family simply called him Naseem. She acknowledges that he had legal troubles in the past, facing prison time in 2022 due to gun charges.

However, Stevens was on a journey to change his life, especially as he anticipated becoming a father. Williams notes, “I think he started to realize that that wasn’t the road he needed to go down.” He eagerly awaited his child’s birth and looked forward to establishing a family life with his partner.

Williams last saw Stevens early Friday morning. She was unaware of his plans for that day and uncertain about his attendance at Cooper’s funeral. The car Stevens was driving during the incident had a funeral sticker, as noted by police.

The same day, Cooper’s funeral occurred in Merrillville, Indiana. Cooper, known for his contributions to music, was killed less than two weeks prior in an attack at a Fuller Park gas station. Six gunmen fired on Cooper and his companion while he was in a white Tesla. Cooper died from the injuries within an hour, though his companion remained unharmed.

Cooper’s demise sparked reactions on social media and acknowledgements from fellow artists, highlighting his musical talents and authenticity. However, as of Monday, both incidents remain unsolved, with ongoing investigations as detectives search for leads.
