A 12-year-old boy, Xavier Taylor from New Jersey, remains in critical condition after suffering a head injury during pre-game warm-ups. The incident took place last Tuesday night at Fellowship Columbia Bank Field, located near Maple Shade.
Following the accident, Xavier was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey. According to reports from NBC Philadelphia, he was airlifted there after collapsing on the field.
The Maple Shade Youth Baseball Association has expressed its commitment to supporting Xavier and his family. In a statement provided to NBC News, they emphasized their focus on offering help through prayer and faith, appreciating the widespread community support.
In a video shared, Xavier’s father, Greg Taylor, mentioned that his son remains in a critical state and is using a ventilator. He added that the family is hopeful and taking things day by day.
“We’re pushing day by day to hope that the activity comes back,” Greg Taylor said.
Greg also shared a heartfelt moment when their younger son brought a pair of shoes for Xavier, hoping for his recovery and eventual return home. On Thursday evening, the community gathered for a vigil at the baseball field where Xavier was injured. Many attendees wore his team number, No. 6, in solidarity.
During the vigil, Greg Taylor assured the crowd of his son’s love for baseball and his determination to play again. In response to the accident, local residents decorated Main Street with blue, the color of Xavier’s team. The Maple Shade Youth Baseball Facebook page encouraged the community to show their support by placing bats on their porches.
The page also urged neighbors to join together in solidarity by placing a baseball bat on their porch as a sign of support for Xavier’s recovery. Other local teams demonstrated their backing by posting supportive pictures for Xavier on social media.
