Congressional Baseball Game: GOP’s Winning Streak and New Potential Players

The Democratic team is facing mounting pressure as they prepare for the Congressional Baseball Game at Nationals Park, amid a six-game losing streak and the Republican team’s pending acquisition of a key player. Mark Teixeira, a former Texas Rangers and New York Yankees star, is anticipated to join the GOP roster after an expected election victory. Teixeira ranks 58th on MLB’s all-time home run leaderboard with 409 career home runs.

Democrats are strategizing how to address Teixeira’s likely presence. Senator Ruben Gallego from Arizona jokingly mentioned their plan to intentionally walk Teixeira when possible. He also highlighted the need for the Democratic team to recruit a major league player for their side.

Though Teixeira hasn’t played professionally for almost a decade, he announced through social media his excitement to compete against the Democrats both on and off the baseball field.

Republican pitcher Greg Steube has been a consistent force foiling the Democratic team. He distinctly enjoys the games where he can assert his performance against them. In 2021, Steube made history by hitting the first out-of-the-park home run in the game in 40 years.

Pat Harrigan, also representing the GOP, played college baseball at Georgetown and has demonstrated skill in previous matches, contributing to the Republican team’s five consecutive victories. Harrigan expressed optimism regarding the possibility of extending this streak by winning again.

Despite the tough predictions for the Democrats, the game has supported local charities, raising significant funds. In 2025, the game collected $2.75 million in donations and is expected to raise even more with this week’s match.
