In Washington D.C., it is commonly perceived as politically unwise for members of Congress to raise their own salaries. Such actions might be deemed corrupt by voters. To manage the financial demands of representing citizens, the House devised a reimbursement program.
This program, however, has sparked controversy. Members are not required to provide receipts for their expenses, leading to a noticeable increase in reimbursements. This lack of transparency raises concerns over potential misuse.
