Rio de Janeiro became the backdrop for the wedding celebration of Conor Kennedy and Giulia Bourguignon Marinho, better known as Brazilian pop star Giulia Be. This event took place earlier this month, gaining attention across social media.
Conor Kennedy is the son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who served in the Trump administration as the Secretary of Health & Human Services. The couple celebrated their wedding with a three-day event starting on October 8, featuring a blessing at the Christ the Redeemer statue, a ceremony at Igreja Nossa Senhora do Carmo da Antiga Sé, and a reception at a historic mansion in Jardim Botânico.
According to Vogue, the couple legally married in a private civil ceremony in Los Angeles in March. Giulia Be expressed their desire not only to celebrate their marriage but also to highlight the beauty of Rio de Janeiro, a city close to their hearts.
“Being there, overlooking Rio, with our family was a memory I’ll never forget,” she said.
The religious wedding ceremony took place at Igreja Nossa Senhora do Carmo da Antiga Sé, a significant historical building in downtown Rio. The church, often referred to as Antiga Sé, was established in 1808 and served as the royal chapel after the Portuguese court moved to Brazil.
The couple and their guests also enjoyed a blessing at the Christ the Redeemer statue on Corcovado Mountain, a site within Tijuca National Park. Guests participated in activities like beach volleyball on Ipanema and attended gatherings in Alto da Boa Vista hills and the Instituto Brando Barbosa reception venue in Jardim Botânico, near the well-known Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden.
Giulia Be, discussing the celebration with Brazilian outlet Globo, explained her wish to bring Kennedy’s friends and family to Brazil. She shared with Kennedy, “My love, I love you, but I’m not getting married in Massachusetts.”
The event’s grandeur was accentuated by Giulia Be’s Calvin Klein slip dress, reminiscent of the style worn by Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, Conor Kennedy’s late aunt by marriage. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. shared moments of the celebration online, including family beneath Christ the Redeemer and interactions between the newlyweds.
A remark from Giulia Be on Instagram reflects the joy of the day: “It made me so happy seeing all of you enjoying my hometown,” she expressed to her father-in-law, RFK Jr.
