Contention Over DNC’s 2024 Election Report

Michelle Goldberg, a New York Times opinion columnist, has criticized the Democratic National Committee’s 2024 election report. She described the document as “mysterious,” “anticlimactic,” and “ridiculous.” Goldberg believes the report was kept hidden not because it was sensitive, but because it was poorly constructed.

The report fails to address key issues affecting the Democratic Party, according to Goldberg. It does not mention “Israel” or “Gaza” in its 192 pages. The document does not offer insights into why the party lost support among Black and Latino men or struggled with irregular voters. Goldberg humorously questioned if the document was written by A.I., suggesting it might have been more insightful if it had been.

Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin has faced criticism for changing his stance on releasing the report. Initially in favor of public disclosure, Martin later decided against it. Goldberg argued this decision has made the report a subject of intrigue and suspect.

Conservative columnist Ramesh Ponnuru, writing for The Washington Post, noted that the report does not address key concerns. These include President Joe Biden’s age, border policy criticisms, and the party’s appeal to religious voters. Ponnuru also mentioned the absence of discussion on certain progressive policies that may have alienated voters.

The report, eventually covered by CNN, highlights issues such as declining voter registration and reduced state party support. It advises the Democratic Party to pay more attention to voters in Middle America and the South.

Ken Martin, distancing himself from the publication, stated that the report does not meet his standards. He could not endorse it with the DNC’s approval. Martin emphasized that the document was released in its unedited form for transparency.
