On August 15, 2026, a mass shooting occurred at Virginia State University, resulting in several injuries and placing the campus on lockdown.
Law enforcement responded to the incident at 1:30 a.m. on the 3300 block of Boisseau Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered five individuals with gunshot wounds outside the university dormitories.
