Controversy Surrounds Michigan Senate Race

David Beamer, father of United Flight 93 hero Todd Beamer, has expressed criticism towards Hasan Piker, a controversial streamer linked to Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed. The criticism surfaced in a campaign video supporting El-Sayed’s Republican opponent, Mike Rogers. This video was shared by Great Lakes HQ and produced by the Great Lakes Conservative Fund, a super PAC backing Rogers.

The video begins with a 2019 clip of Piker claiming America “deserved 9/11.” It then shows clips of El-Sayed appearing with Piker on Twitch and refusing to disavow him when asked. David Beamer, who narrates the ad, introduces his son, Todd Beamer, highlighting his role as one of the heroes on United Flight 93 during the September 11 attacks. Beamer states, “Those 43 people on Flight 93 were not victims. They were killed in action. When I hear anyone suggest America ‘deserves 9/11’ my question is, ‘Who would say that?’”

Although El-Sayed has distanced himself from Piker’s comments, he has not fully renounced Piker, who supported him during the Democratic primary. Former Republican spokesperson Elizabeth Pipko expressed concern over families mourning 9/11 victims being politically involved. “How incredibly disappointing that, 25 years after those horrific attacks, Todd Beamer’s family is still unable to simply mourn their son and speak about his heroism,” Pipko commented. She emphasized the importance of electing leaders who embody “the American spirit of grit and guts,” as Todd did. “In honor of Todd Beamer and all the brave Americans taken from us too soon, we have a job to do — in November and beyond,” Pipko added.

Theo Wold, a former White House deputy assistant for domestic policy, argued that Piker will continue to affect El-Sayed’s campaign. “Antifa Democrats and their friends in the media say a lot of dangerous and incendiary things,” Wold stated. He criticized Piker for supporting political violence and disparaging Americans who died on September 11. “El-Sayed refuses to denounce Piker… Leftists like them don’t believe there are any boundaries when they are pursuing their ideological goals,” Wold noted.

Fox News Digital reached out to various parties involved, including Gold Star Families, El-Sayed’s campaign, and Mike Rogers’ campaign, but did not receive an immediate response.
