Copper Theft Suspect’s Bold Escape in Oklahoma

A suspect in a copper theft case surprised an Oklahoma deputy by diving headfirst through a closed window, but he left behind a clue that led to his capture. The incident occurred on October 1 when deputies from the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary call at a vacant house on Sunset Lane, as showcased in the agency’s bodycam video.

The deputy encountered Rayven Lee Wooten, 24, from Nicoma Park inside the house, allegedly attempting to steal copper wire from a dishwasher. Video footage from the sheriff’s office shows the deputy instructing Wooten multiple times to remove his hands from his pockets, turn around, and kneel.

You’re not listening. Turn around and get on your knees. You will get shot.

Instead of complying, Wooten ran around the kitchen and launched himself through the closed living room window. The deputy, taken by surprise, reported over the radio, “He just bailed out the window. He’s on foot.”

Although Wooten initially evaded capture, he left his backpack, containing his driver’s license, behind at the scene. This oversight allowed deputies to track him down later. The sheriff’s office humorously commented on the suspect’s escape, stating, “A suspect took the phrase ‘Make a break for it’ a little too literally!” They also noted that he “missed his calling as a Hollywood stuntman.”

Witnesses and viewers reacted to both the deputy’s startled response and the clue Wooten inadvertently left behind. Comments highlighted the irony of escaping and then abandoning identification documents. Some remarked on the deputy’s reaction, with one observer pointing out, “The deputy’s reaction … total disbelief.”

Following the event, Wooten faces charges of burglary, resisting arrest, and obstructing an officer. Stepheny Price reports for Fox News, focusing on West Coast and Midwest news, missing persons, crime stories, homicide cases, and border security.
