A tragic incident occurred in Issaquah, a suburb of Seattle, where a Costco employee allegedly killed a co-worker in a fit of anger and jealousy. Reports indicate that Tyler Sorensen, 22, has been charged with second-degree murder for the death of 20-year-old Jonathon Langdon on July 31.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Sorensen reportedly followed Langdon, who was riding a motorcycle, as he exited a Costco parking lot. Sorensen then swerved into Langdon’s lane, striking his motorcycle. Security footage shows the moments leading up to the incident, which resulted in Langdon being thrown into a metal signpost.
Authorities state that Sorensen fled the scene initially, only to return later with a family member to speak with investigators. The affidavit indicates Sorensen paused only to check if his vehicle was operable enough to drive home.
The motive behind this alleged crime appears to be jealousy. Sorensen reportedly became agitated after witnessing Langdon hug a female co-worker, whom Sorensen claimed to be his girlfriend. In his anger, he texted friends, expressing that his “blood is boiling.” PEOPLE reported that the female co-worker clarified she and Sorensen were not in a relationship, indicating she had told him about “crossing boundaries.”
During interrogation, Sorensen admitted his actions were “stupid,” claiming his intention was merely to “spook” Langdon, not harm him.
Issaquah Police Chief Steve Mylett expressed condolences, saying, “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the victim as they process this tragic loss of life.”
