Construction workers faced a terrifying situation on Friday when a crane’s arm malfunctioned and collapsed onto the pool deck of a nearby luxury high-rise in Miami. Bystander video captured the moment as the crane arm crashed through palm trees at the One Plaza West Brickell condo building.
The incident was recorded by Macie Norrod, who watched from her home office. She expressed her shock, fearing for the workers’ safety as the crane arm fell. The video showed these workers in green vests clinging to the top part of the crane, eventually descending safely via ladders.
The crane was not operational at the time. It was being assembled that afternoon when an unspecified failure occurred, according to Lt. Pete Sanchez of Miami Fire Rescue. The failure caused the arm to fall, partially submerging it in the pool.
Firefighters quickly accessed the pool deck to conduct a thorough search. They confirmed no victims were present, and they secured the area to ensure public safety.
The construction team confirmed all their personnel were safe and accounted for, with no injuries reported. The incident is under investigation by both Miami’s Building Department and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
