Darius Rucker performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” to open Night 2 of WWE SummerSlam in Minneapolis on Sunday. The Grammy Award-winning artist captivated thousands at U.S. Bank Stadium, setting the stage for an eventful night of wrestling matches.
After the anthem, enthusiastic “U-S-A” chants erupted among the crowd. Earlier, Rucker appeared on the pre-show, sharing his lifelong passion for wrestling. He recalled watching legendary bouts like the Dusty Rhodes vs. “Superstar” Billy Graham match during his childhood.
Rucker also spoke about owning a genuine Ric Flair robe, saying, “I spent a fortune for it and it was worth every penny.” He described the storytelling aspect of wrestling as his main attraction. “The matches are wonderful, but it’s the stories,” he said. “Understanding where the story’s going and when it comes full circle is the most satisfying thing.”
The event also featured appearances from personalities like Corey Graves and Peter Rosenberg at WWE Countdown. SummerSlam Night 2 was highly anticipated in the wrestling community, and Rucker’s performance perfectly set the tone.
