Karmelo Anthony was convicted last week for the fatal stabbing of Frisco teenager Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet. Anthony received a 35-year prison sentence. New exhibits provide insights into the evidence presented to jurors in the case.
On April 2, 2025, hours before the incident, Anthony’s girlfriend, Valeria Torres Perez, reported his behavior to school staff. She claimed he was stalking her and unwilling to end their relationship. Court documents reveal Anthony texting that he was “on the verge.” The meaning behind the message remains unclear.
Prosecutors highlighted several past actions in their notice filed on May 8, 2026. The document contains threats, assaults, and weapon references attributed to Anthony. It serves as a record of alleged conduct but doesn’t confirm the incidents occurred as stated.
A video from Nov. 13, 2024, depicts Anthony with what appears to be a firearm. Another video from Jan. 4, 2025, allegedly shows him aiming it at a residence. Text messages reveal further exchanges about weapons and violent intentions toward Perez and others.
By March 2025, the threats directed at Perez intensified. Anthony’s messages included harmful statements about her and her friends. Witnesses in the trial confirmed Metcalf’s words immediately after the attack.
The document traces Anthony’s alleged misconduct back to his school years in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Instances of assault and other aggressive behavior were noted. However, there is no formal mental health diagnosis provided in the court documents.
Anthony’s conviction for the stabbing at the track meet led to his appeal. His attorney has been contacted for further comment on the case.
