Former aides from the Obama administration, who now host the Pod Save America podcast, engaged in controversial banter regarding the potential causes of President Donald Trump’s demise. This conversation took place during a recent episode aired on Tuesday.
Jon Favreau, a former speechwriter for Obama and one of the podcast’s co-hosts, began by reading questions from their audience. One question asked rhetorically, “Is there anyone that can stop this orange piece of s—?!!!” Favreau noted that this inquiry reflects the types of questions frequently received from Facebook users.
In response, Tommy Vietor, another former aide, mentioned, “Iran’s doing a pretty good job so far.” He also added that “Father Time” would eventually claim President Trump, implying that age would be a factor. Vietor jested about heart disease as a potential threat, while Jon Lovett, another co-host, remarked on the effects of aging on health.
Favreau remarked on the approaching year of 2027, suggesting that concerns over Trump’s presidency might soon become irrelevant. Co-host Dan Pfeiffer theorized that they might have to find “real jobs,” a notion Favreau agreed was likely.
Theo Wold, a former White House official under Trump, expressed dismay to Fox News Digital, describing the discussion as indicative of a more uncivil political era. Wold noted that speculating about a president’s death publicly was once considered inappropriate. He asserted that President Trump remains vigorous and in command, contrasting him with President Biden.
Morgan Murphy, a former Pentagon press secretary, criticized the podcast hosts for their apparent lack of decorum, observing that discussions about President Trump’s potential demise received an audience without any visible discomfort from the hosts. Murphy indicated that these conversations reflect the current mindset of some Democrats.
There has been significant criticism toward rhetoric that appears to look forward to Trump’s death, especially after multiple attempts on his life. Murphy pointedly suggested that the podcast hosts could not extend the grace to Trump that historical figures like President Lincoln might have advocated.
