The Philadelphia Eagles, after witnessing one pass from Andy Dalton, decided to part ways with the veteran quarterback. During their 27-7 Week 3 defeat to the Chicago Bears, Dalton stepped in when Jalen Hurts exited momentarily due to injury. At that point, the Eagles were trailing 7-0 and faced a third-and-goal at the Bears’ 2-yard line.
Dalton, a three-time Pro Bowler, took a shotgun snap but ended up throwing an interception when rookie safety Dillon Thieneman intercepted the pass. Shortly before the team’s trip to London, the Eagles released Dalton from the roster.
Following the interception, Tanner McKee was promoted to backup quarterback, resulting in Dalton moving to third on the depth chart. The team then made a decisive move to release him. Dalton’s journey through the NFL has seen him play for six different teams. Initially, he spent nine years as a starter for the Cincinnati Bengals. Subsequently, he has served as a backup for various teams.
After his tenure with the Bengals, Dalton had stints with the Dallas Cowboys for one season, Chicago Bears for one season, New Orleans Saints for one season, and Carolina Panthers for three seasons before joining the Eagles. Notably, Dalton did not start any games during his time with the Eagles.
Throughout his NFL career, Dalton has appeared in 180 games, starting 169 of them. He holds an 84-83-2 record as a starter and has achieved a 62.6% pass completion rate, amassing 39,793 passing yards, 254 touchdowns, and 152 interceptions.
Looking ahead, the Eagles, holding a 2-2 record, are set to face the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are 3-1, in a London game scheduled for 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday.
