A significant emergency response took place at Miami International Airport after an Amazon cargo plane overran the runway, collided with several vehicles, and caught fire during its landing around 2 p.m. local time. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, and airport officials informed Fox News Digital of the incident.
Prime Air Flight 7598 overran the airport’s diagonal runway and became immobilized at the northwest end. The crash resulted in a fire, and more than 60 fire rescue units responded to the scene, dealing with multiple patients.
‘Units arrived to find an airplane that had caught on fire as a result of this crash, with heavy flames and smoke showing. Firefighters are working on extinguishing the fire and assessing patients.’
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue shared this update on X, adding that there are multiple patients. However, the authorities have not released any information about injuries or fatalities.
An Amazon spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital that the plane faced an ‘incident’ while trying to land but did not provide further details. Immediate action is focusing on the safety and support of affected individuals, in collaboration with local authorities.
The Boeing 767-300 aircraft, operated by 21 Air, departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The FAA received the emergency alert at approximately 1:55 p.m.
Due to the situation, the FAA implemented a ground stop at the airport, affecting all operations until at least 4:30 p.m. Airports announced all runways and taxiways are closed as of 3:00 p.m.
Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy stated that first responders were evaluating the scene. In a post on X, he warned travelers about potential delays and cancellations in the area.
Further investigations by the FAA will follow to determine the incident’s precise circumstances.
