After Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent announcement, the Israeli military reported striking over 70 Hezbollah sites within a day. This development comes amidst tensions between Israel and the Iranian-backed Lebanese group, Hezbollah.
President Trump’s conflicting statements regarding progress on a potential deal with Iran add complexity to the ongoing conflict. Meanwhile, Netanyahu announced on social media, “We are at war with Hezbollah,” indicating an expected intensification of military actions by Israel.
Despite an American-brokered cease-fire effective since April, hostilities persist. Each party accuses the other of violating the truce. In light of recent escalations, Netanyahu stated that Israeli forces had eliminated more than 600 Hezbollah militants in recent weeks. He reinforced the military’s resolve, stating, “On the contrary, I said to press on the pedal even more.”
The fighting’s escalation between Israel and Hezbollah might further complicate the US-Iran negotiations. While Iran insists on including Lebanon in any agreement, President Trump has not mentioned the Israel-Hezbollah conflict in his discussions about a potential deal.
According to Lebanon’s health ministry, Israeli strikes have resulted in 3,185 deaths and over 9,600 injuries in Lebanon since clashes reignited in March. The conflict, which started after Hezbollah attacked Israel following the American-Israeli assault on Iran in late February, has led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of individuals.
