Angelynn “Angie” Mock, a former television news anchor from Missouri, has confessed to fatally stabbing her mother on Halloween last year. Authorities reported that Mock, 48, believed her mother was the devil during the incident.

According to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office, Mock pled guilty to one count of first-degree murder for the killing of her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, on October 31, 2025. As part of the plea agreement, Mock may face life imprisonment, with the possibility of parole after 25 years.

Police were called to the home Mock shared with her stepfather in Wichita, Kansas, around 7:50 a.m. on the day of the murder. Officers found Mock outside with cuts on her hands, as stated by the Wichita Police Department. Avers was transported to a hospital with multiple stab wounds and later died from her injuries.

Authorities revealed that Mock made remarks indicating she believed her mother was the devil. She is reported to have stated that she killed Avers to “save herself.” Mock’s stepfather informed KAKE-TV that Mock had been diagnosed with mental illness and experienced delusions and depression.

For her career, Mock was a news anchor and reporter for Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015, according to her LinkedIn profile. Before that, she worked as a morning anchor for KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011. Mock also held reporting positions in Minnesota, Montana, and Nebraska.

Mock is set to receive her sentence on October 5.
