A U.S. Army Apache helicopter from Fort Hood crashed in Salado, Texas, resulting in the deaths of two people on Wednesday. This tragic incident was confirmed by local authorities.
Bill Coleman, spokesperson for the Bell County Sheriff’s Office, reported that the two individuals on board were pronounced dead at the scene around 2:30 p.m. local time. The helicopter crashed into a field without hitting any residential structures.

Brig. Gen. Ethan Diven, acting commanding general, verified that the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter originated from Fort Hood. In a statement, he expressed that the Army’s focus remains on securing the site and aiding initial response efforts. He extended condolences to the crew and their families while awaiting further details.
Currently, there is no information regarding the cause of the crash or the identities of the victims involved. Following the crash, a tanker aircraft was seen dumping fire retardant onto a field to control a subsequent grass fire sparked by the incident. As of 3:30 p.m. local time, the fire was still burning out of control.
Fort Hood is situated near Killeen, Texas, slightly northwest of Salado and 70 miles north of Austin.
