Fatal Rollover Crash in Barrington Hills

Authorities reported a deadly rollover crash in Barrington Hills early Saturday morning. The incident happened around 2:20 a.m. near Hills and Dales and Brinker roads. This area remained closed for eight hours after the crash. A blue Mercedes SUV, traveling at high speed, went over a hill on Brinker Road and ended up on a nearby lawn, according to the Barrington Hills police.

The SUV traveled about 400 feet, hitting two trees and crossing a culvert. It toppled a large oak tree before stopping near Hills and Dales Road. One occupant was ejected from the vehicle. Two others had to be freed by cutting the SUV open. Their identities are not yet disclosed.

Zach Swiatek was awakened by his teenage daughter shortly after the crash occurred near their home. He found the SUV crashed into a 60-foot tree in his front yard. The engine and transmission were detached, lying on the ground. Police and first responders were on location, rescuing the trapped individuals and transporting them via ambulance.

Swiatek mentioned seeing single-car crashes regularly outside his home due to the narrow two-way road without a shoulder. Speeding is often a factor, along with icy conditions in winter. “They had to be traveling at a high rate of speed to drive through a tree,” Swiatek stated, highlighting the extent of the crash’s damage.

The Barrington Hills Police Department is investigating the accident. Swiatek expressed his sympathy, saying, “My heart goes out to the people involved and their families, a huge loss today.”
