Federal Judge Overturns Trump’s H-1B Visa Fee Increase

A federal judge has nullified the Trump administration’s decision to impose a $100,000 fee on new H-1B visas. This judgment contradicts an earlier court ruling that upheld the fee hike. The administration had introduced this fee as a measure to prevent foreign workers from replacing American employees.

U.S. District Court Judge Leo Sorokin in Boston ruled in favor of 20 states opposing the policy. The judge concluded that the executive branch overstepped its powers and violated the Administrative Procedure Act, which outlines how federal agencies formulate regulations.

The Court finds that the Policy imposes a tax on H-1B petitions without the requisite delegation by Congress, Sorokin stated.

H-1B visas are primarily for high-skilled jobs challenging to fill domestically. Technology companies, particularly, rely on these visas. Most approvals go to workers from India. The states contended that the increased fee complicated hiring essential professionals such as doctors and teachers.

President Trump to Nominate Todd Blanche as Attorney General

President Donald Trump has announced his intent to nominate Todd Blanche for the position of attorney general. Blanche, a former personal attorney to Trump, has been closely aligned with the president’s agenda while serving in an acting role at the Justice Department.

State Department’s New Visa Service Proposal

The State Department plans to introduce a “premium” expedited service for those seeking business or tourist visas to the U.S. Applicants will pay $750 in addition to the $185 base fee. The initiative aims to mitigate restrictions from policies that made U.S. entry more challenging during the Trump administration.

The new service, not yet publicly announced, will be piloted from July 1 to December 31. Under this scheme, paying applicants can schedule interviews within 10 days at select embassies. Internal documents reveal the project’s temporary nature and intent to address migration challenges.

NBA Finals: Trump Encounters Mixed Reactions

During Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks, President Donald Trump was met with boos. His appearance on the video screens during the national anthem prompted a mixed reaction from fans.

Though chants of “U-S-A!” started as Avery Wilson sang the anthem, they soon turned to boos when Trump was highlighted on the screens. The atmosphere shifted to cheers as the focus moved to the U.S. flag and the Knicks players. Trump later dismissed the incident, claiming the reaction was mostly positive.

Trump watched the game from Knicks owner James Dolan’s suite alongside several advisers and cabinet members.

Republican Concerns Over Surveillance Program

Republicans are alerting the White House about a critical surveillance authority possibly lapsing soon. The bipartisan opposition concerns Trump’s nominee to lead the nation’s intelligence community temporarily.

Senators Tom Cotton and Chuck Grassley expressed their worries in a letter following a procedural vote failure. They advised Secretary of State Marco Rubio to brace for potential gaps in foreign intelligence gathering if the authority expires.

The contentious Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which might expire on June 12, allows agencies like the CIA and NSA to gather overseas communications without warrants.
