Quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the top overall pick in this year’s draft, has signed a four-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders valued at $57.27 million. The deal includes a fifth-year option for the team.
Mendoza was the last of the Raiders’ ten draft picks to finalize his contract. Expressing his enthusiasm, Mendoza shared on the team’s social media, “I’m excited to get this thing signed. I’m excited to be a part of the silver and black. Can’t wait.”
During organized team activities and minicamp, Mendoza managed the third-team offense. However, he is expected to assume a more significant role as training camp starts this Wednesday.
Veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins, who joined the team as a free agent with a $20 million guaranteed contract, will begin camp as the leading quarterback. The duration of Cousins’s hold on the starting position will likely be a key focus during training camp and potentially throughout the season.
Mendoza aims to replicate his college football achievements at the professional level. His final season at Indiana was marked by winning the Heisman Trophy and leading his team to their first national championship.
