On a recent Saturday in Flushing, Queens, nearly two dozen people sustained injuries when a fire erupted. Officials reported the incident occurred just before 10 a.m. on 41st Road near College Point Boulevard.
Fire Extends to Multiple Buildings
The blaze, which began on the first floor of a two-story, wood-frame dwelling, soon spread to neighboring structures. Two buildings were ablaze upon firefighters’ arrival, and flames had reached a third, according to Chief of Fire Operations Kevin Woods.

Firefighters had to rescue at least one resident from the second floor of the building where the fire originated.
Emergency Response and Injury Reports
The fire escalated to a five-alarm emergency, bringing over 250 firefighters and EMS personnel to combat it. The situation is now under control, but the FDNY plans to stay onsite to manage any hotspots.
Authorities reported at least 21 injuries, including 17 firefighters, two emergency medical technicians, and two residents. All were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Firefighters’ injuries involved heat exhaustion, smoke inhalation, and minor physical strains. One resident was transported in serious condition, while another was less severely injured.
Community Impact and Ongoing Investigation
The fire inflicted significant damage, displacing several families. The Red Cross is assisting those affected. Officials have yet to determine the cause. Nearby residents are advised to keep windows shut to mitigate smoke exposure, and drivers should anticipate road closures and traffic delays.
