Fire Incident in Spokane Leads to Arrest

Paul Child and his grandson were driving close to their home near Spokane, Washington, when they noticed a man standing nervously by some tall grass and trees near the railroad. This observation happened about half a mile from their residence.

Upon returning home, Mr. Child was alerted by his daughter, who saw smoke coming from the backyard area. Mr. Child, at 64, immediately suspected that the man they had seen was responsible for starting a fire.

The family quickly contacted 911 and began preparing for a possible evacuation. Mr. Child also set out to warn his neighbors about the potential danger. Within 20 minutes, firefighters and a police officer reached the scene, where the fire had rapidly escalated into a critical situation.

Authorities detained a man named Aaron F. Farinacci based on Mr. Child’s description of the person he had observed earlier. Mr. Child was asked to verify if Mr. Farinacci was indeed the person he had seen. He confirmed his identification.
