In a recent appearance on My View with Lara Trump, Lindy Li, a former fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee (DNC), voiced concerns about the party’s financial challenges. Li cited Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign spending and the party’s shift towards progressive socialism as key reasons for dwindling support from contributors.
Li warned that major donors are hesitant to support another presidential bid from Kamala Harris. She attributed this to the party facing internal divisions, fundraising difficulties, and a lackluster 2028 candidate pool. According to Li, donors consider their contributions a “business proposition” and are reluctant to support those they feel mismanaged their funds.
During a panel discussion at the Austrian World Summit, Vice President Kamala Harris spoke, but donors are reportedly skeptical about her campaigning again due to past financial decisions. Democratic insiders may view Harris as the obvious frontrunner for 2028, but Li expressed that the party’s financial troubles and lack of accountability post-election contribute to donor frustration.
Li criticized the party’s so-called “autopsy,” describing it as a sham that failed to hold Kamala Harris accountable as a candidate. She stated, “Kamala Harris is living in fantasyland… [thinking] that big donors would bet on her again.” Li suggested Harris should step back, as her agenda does not align with American public sentiment.
At the Michigan Democratic Women’s Caucus Legacy Luncheon, Harris continued her public engagements, but concerns over her previous campaign spending linger. Li noted that around $2.5 billion was spent between Harris’s campaign and the pro-Harris Future Forward super PAC, with federal filings indicating $1.18 billion in campaign disbursements during the 2023-24 cycle.
Li connected the party’s financial woes to donors’ dissatisfaction with its leftward drift and socialist policies. “This is why donors like me left the party in droves,” she remarked, noting that the party even used its headquarters as collateral due to financial strain. “They can’t even get a text back from donors,” she added, criticizing the normalization of socialism within the party.
Li also highlighted political motivations and pressures within the party, mentioning that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s “big tent party” label was a strategic move to prevent a primary challenge from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. She suggested such strategies were misguided and that Americans rejected these same policies in 2024.
