Frank Stronach Found Guilty of Sexual and Indecent Assault

Frank Stronach, a prominent figure in Canada’s business world and the founder of a global auto parts company, has been found guilty of sexual assault and indecent assault in two cases. This verdict marks a significant fall from grace for Stronach, who once held Canada’s highest civilian honor.

Justice Anne Molloy of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice delivered the verdict in Toronto. Stronach, aged 93, was also acquitted of three additional charges of sexual assault involving two women. He had faced a total of a dozen charges based on allegations from seven different complainants, with incidents reportedly occurring between the 1970s and 1990s.

Stronach built Magna International from a modest start in a rented garage into a global leader in the auto industry. He expanded Magna’s operations beyond parts manufacturing, eventually assembling vehicles for top automakers like Mercedes-Benz. During his leadership, the company attempted acquisitions of major firms, including Chrysler and Opel, suggesting the ambitious nature of Stronach’s business strategy.

However, Stronach’s career was not without controversies. He was known for making inappropriate comments about women. Notably, during a bid for Chrysler, he asked shareholders at a 2007 annual meeting who they thought was more attractive to women: him or his aide, Manfred Gingl.

The charges addressed in court revolved around allegations from women Stronach encountered through Magna or other businesses under his control, highlighting a serious breach of trust in professional environments.
