Freshman Quarterbacks Aim for Starting Roles in Tennessee SEC Schools

There’s potential for both SEC programs in Tennessee to start the season with freshman quarterbacks. Freshman Faizon Brandon earned the starting spot at No. 20 Tennessee, surpassing sophomore George MacIntyre. Tennessee’s Freshman Quarterback

Tennessee’s coach, Josh Heupel, praised Brandon, highlighting his work and growth during training. Joey Aguilar’s loss of eligibility opened up the competition, motivating Brandon. He threw for 6,374 yards and 79 touchdowns and ran for 1,261 yards with 21 touchdowns at Grimsley High School, leading them to state wins. Ranked as the nation’s No. 3 quarterback by 247Sports, his performance has been notable.

Vanderbilt’s Quarterback Battle

Jared Curtis aims to secure a start at Vanderbilt. The 6-3 player chose Vanderbilt over Georgia, becoming Vanderbilt’s top recruit. With over 9,500 passing yards and 2,100 rushing yards at Nashville Christian Academy, Curtis was Tennessee’s Gatorade player of the year. Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea acknowledges Curtis’s raw talent and ability but notes the challenges of adjusting to SEC play.
