After a 48-year career in Hollywood, George Clooney will be honored at the Venice Film Festival in September. Known for acting in over 50 films, Clooney is among Hollywood’s highest-grossing actors. The “Ocean’s Eleven” star is set to receive the Golden Lion Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to cinema. The festival, one of the world’s top five, will take place at Lido di Venezia from September 2-12.
Variety reported a Venice Biennale statement celebrating Clooney’s achievement. It highlights his blend of classic star glamour, professionalism, and modern sensitivity. Clooney’s filmography shows remarkable versatility. He’s starred in war movies like “Three Kings” and “Syriana,” thrillers such as “Michael Clayton,” comedies like “Ocean’s Eleven” and “O Brother Where Art Thou?,” science fiction films “Gravity” and “Solaris,” and bittersweet comedies “The Descendants,” “Up In the Air,” and “Jay Kelly.”
According to the statement, Clooney consistently delivers performances that are both ironic and melancholy, fascinating and reflective, brilliant and unexpectedly deep. Beyond acting and producing, Clooney’s cinematic contributions include directing. He’s one of only three stars to receive Oscar nominations in six different categories: best picture, director, lead actor, supporting actor, original screenplay, and adapted screenplay, alongside Alfonso Cuaron and Kenneth Branagh.
The Italian festival will also recognize Clooney’s societal contributions, noting his commitment to social and humanitarian causes. These efforts establish him as a prominent figure in today’s entertainment industry.
Clooney, a regular at the Venice Film Festival, expressed his gratitude, stating, “I’ve had so many extraordinary moments in Venice. This festival is without question my favorite, and receiving the Golden Lion is a tremendous honor.” He humorously added, “It also probably means I’m old, but I’ll take it.”
Clooney last appeared on screen in the 2025 comedy-drama “Jay Kelly,” alongside Adam Sandler, Billy Crudup, and Laura Dern.
