Giants Look to Add Quarterback as Jaxson Dart Undergoes Knee Surgery

The New York Giants may be adding a quarterback, or two, following Jaxson Dart’s knee surgery this past Friday. This surgery ends Dart’s ability to participate in the regular season.

On Sunday, veteran quarterback Jameis Winston started for the Giants, leading the team to a 12-7 victory over the Tennessee Titans at MetLife Stadium despite the rainy weather. Winston completed 14 out of 22 passes for 118 yards, with an additional 14 yards gained on the ground.

Though Winston’s performance wasn’t exceptional, his efforts helped the Giants secure a win against a Titans team struggling under new head coach Robert Saleh, marking their third consecutive loss.

In a postgame press conference, head coach John Harbaugh expressed his intention to retain Winston as the starting quarterback, irrespective of any new quarterback acquisitions. According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, Harbaugh acknowledged Winston’s fulfillment of team requirements in the win against Tennessee.

Winston, 32, has not been performing impressively in terms of passing yards and touchdowns. However, the Giants aren’t changing their strategy based on Winston’s past struggles since he was the first overall pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015.

“Not at all,” Harbaugh stated. “The plans are the plans. The opportunities that you have are the opportunities you have. No matter what, we’re going to do everything we can to make our team as strong as we can based on what options we have.”

The Giants hope Dart can return in January if they progress far into the playoffs. Until then, securing wins is crucial for postseason qualification. The Giants have a 2-1 record and prepare to face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4.

Concerns about Winston’s performance influence the Giants’ postseason ambitions, highlighted by his 11 of 27 for 111 yards and one interception showing in the team’s Week 2 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams on “Monday Night Football.” New York anticipated improved performance from Winston with a dedicated plan against the Titans, but outcomes suggest otherwise.
