The 2027 Girl Scout cookie season will feature a new addition. For the first time, the Girl Scouts of the USA will offer treats made especially for dogs called Patch Pals. These blueberry muffin-flavored dog treats are produced in collaboration with BARK, known for BarkBox.
Unique Feature of Patch Pals
Each Patch Pal cookie is designed with one of four ‘patch’ designs that represent memorable Girl Scout experiences. This aspect of the cookies was highlighted in a news release by the Girl Scouts of the USA.

Ben Donati, an emergency veterinarian from Apex Vets in Silver Spring, Maryland, shared his thoughts on the development. He expressed his excitement and noted the idea of catering to pets as family members should have been considered earlier.
Pet Treat Regulation Advice
Donati explained to Fox News Digital that these treats make sense due to the increasing trend of treating pets like family. Nevertheless, he cautioned pet owners to limit treat consumption to no more than 10% of their dog’s diet.
He emphasized that although no alarming ingredient was found in the Patch Pals, treats should not replace a nutritionally complete diet. The advice is to avoid letting pets overindulge in either these or human treats.
Impact of Humanization on Pet Care
Donati discussed the changing relationships between Americans and their pets. He mentioned that treating pets human-like includes emotional and psychological aspects. This attitude may lead to providing treats generously, leading to potential health issues such as obesity in dogs.
Pet owners may prevent overfeeding their food-motivated dogs by using regular kibble as rewards rather than extra treats. Behavioral issues may arise if treats are given at inappropriate times, reinforcing unwanted habits.
Positive Reception of Patch Pals
Despite these cautions, Donati welcomed this new addition to the Girl Scouts’ lineup. He appreciated the innovation, perceiving it as a delightful experience for both the girls selling the treats and the families purchasing them.
The Patch Pals will be available starting January 12, 2027, allowing families and their pets to enjoy these new treats together. Peter Burke, a lifestyle editor with Fox News Digital, provided this information.
